Pinch pot a day project

Hello to all of you!

I have a little announcement to make.
On January 1, 2013 I am starting a project with pinch pots! The project will be conducted and documented on this blog. I will be uploading daily photos of my work in progress.
Why have I decided to do this project?
I was inspired by a similar projects from various ceramists around the world. It’s a fun and creative way to make a commitment to yourself, to work continuously on a daily basis and to explore and learn techniques in more detailed way. I will be exploring the simplest, ancient method and form of pottery, pinch pots. Before potters had the wheel, they were creating pots and clay forms using only their hands and fingers. Making pinch pots is the most direct method that people have in interacting with clay. It teaches us tactile sensitivity and we easily learn and develop awareness of form by directly modifying the clay in our hands. This method can be used to create very exciting and sophisticated forms.

I am very excited about this project because I will be exploring and experimenting with different types of clay and various texture design techniques such as impressions, slip trailing, sgraffito, mishima, decorating with engobes and oxides etc. My goal is to develop and improve my skills on daily practice and of course to have fun through all this project. The possibilities with pinch pots and decorating techniques are endless! So now I have a little time till January to do my research on different techniques and I’m really looking forward to putting it into practice.

Till next time, enjoy in my other blog Love for clay.
